External testosterone changes signalling

Testosterone taken from outside the body can suppress pituitary signals that normally stimulate the testes. This can reduce intratesticular testosterone and sperm production, sometimes markedly.

Recovery is variable

Sperm production may recover after treatment stops, but the time course varies and recovery is not guaranteed for every person. Age, duration of exposure, baseline fertility and other health factors can matter.

Discuss future plans before starting

Guidelines advise against starting testosterone in men planning fertility in the near term. A fertility specialist or endocrinologist can assess the cause of symptoms and discuss appropriate alternatives without AEVLI recommending a regimen.
