Quality risks are clinical risks

Peptide products can contain synthesis-related impurities, degradation products or an incorrect amount of active ingredient. Injectable products add sterility and endotoxin risks. These problems may not be visible and cannot be ruled out by appearance.

Immune reactions are possible

Peptides and peptide-related impurities may provoke immune responses. The consequence can range from no apparent effect to allergic or other clinically important reactions. Risk depends on the molecule, impurity profile, route and person.

Compounding has a defined role

Legitimate compounding can meet an individual clinical need, but compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and should not be marketed as straightforward copies when an approved product meets the need. Rules differ between countries.
